With Redata sanctioned, what is left for Brazil to definitively enter the global race for data centers?

From October 6 to 8, Data Center World Brasil brings together specialists, companies, and industry representatives to discuss the challenges of energy, regulation, investments, and infrastructure in the face of AI advancement

São Paulo, September 2026 – With the sanctioning of the Special Tax Regime for Datacenter Services (Redata), Brazil takes a new step toward attracting investments in digital infrastructure. Tax incentives, however, are only one part of an equation that involves energy, capital, connectivity, regulation, and a demand for computational capacity that grows alongside artificial intelligence. The question now is how to transform this new environment into concrete projects and expand the country's participation in the global race for the infrastructure of the AI era.

This debate will be at the center of the first edition of Data Center World Brasil 2026, taking place from October 6 to 8 at the São Paulo Expo, simultaneously with Futurecom. The meeting will gather specialists, executives, operators, infrastructure users, suppliers, entities, and public sector representatives to discuss the factors that could determine the next expansion phase for data centers in the country.

The moment coincides with an important shift in the Brazilian regulatory environment. Redata was sanctioned on September 15, establishing tax incentives for the installation and expansion of data centers in the country. The benefits are accompanied by counterparts related to sustainability, research and development, and serving the domestic market.

The legislation advances precisely as artificial intelligence amplifies the global need for computational infrastructure. A study by McKinsey points out that the global capacity of data centers could practically triple by 2030, rising from around 82 GW to approximately 220 GW, driven by the expansion of hyperscale environments and generative artificial intelligence applications.

“Brazil is experiencing an important moment to define its positioning in the global digital infrastructure market. Redata is one piece of this discussion, but the country's competitiveness depends on a set of factors including energy, regulation, connectivity, financing, sustainability, and execution capacity. Data Center World Brasil arrives precisely to gather the different agents of this ecosystem and deepen a debate that will have a direct impact on upcoming investments and the development of the Brazilian digital economy,” says Leonardo Benedicto, director of Data Center World Brasil.

From incentive to infrastructure

Right on the first day, the panel “Digital infrastructure as a geopolitical asset: competitiveness, investments, regulation, and what needs to change” will address Redata, investment attraction, taxation, and the necessary conditions to expand Brazilian competitiveness.

Also on the 6th, the panel “Financing, viability, and expansion: why projects stall — and how to make them viable in practice” will bring together representatives from the Ministry of Communications, BNDES, Brasscom, and the investment market to address CAPEX, credit, risk, and long-term financing. The discussion aims to show why some projects move forward while others are postponed or remain on paper.

The programming expands the debate to investment decisions associated with artificial intelligence. On the 8th, “Expansion in the AI era: decisions that define billions in investment” will discuss the criteria guiding large-scale projects and the capacity to transform computational demand into new infrastructure assets.

The perspective of those who hire this infrastructure will also be present. In the End Users Panel – “How large companies choose data centers in practice,” executives will discuss how cost, risk, latency, availability, connectivity, and expansion capacity influence decisions regarding critical infrastructure.

Brazil in the regional dispute

The competition for investments will also be analyzed from a Latin American perspective. On October 7, the LATAM Leaders Panel – “Data centers in Latin America: investment, expansion, and architecture decisions” will address how Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia have been structuring their expansion plans and how energy, regulatory environment, costs, and international connectivity influence new projects.

The dimension of this chain also appears in the profile of the companies gathered at the event, operating in different areas linked to data center infrastructure. Sponsors and exhibitors at Data Center World Brasil include INTI Inovação, Johnson Controls, Kingston Technology, MPT Fios e Cabos, Portex do Brasil, Schneider Electric, Springer Carrier, Tyconnex Consultoria, ACE Marketing, AFAPLAN, Pauta Distribuição, Rosenberger Domex, Saint-Gobain, Stauff Brasil, Termomecanica, Transformadores União, TrustedData, Vaisala Serviços, and Vertiv Tecnologia. The presence of companies from different specialties reinforces the multidisciplinary nature of a market that depends on the integration of energy, connectivity, cooling, engineering, equipment, and operations.

With Redata sanctioned and AI driving the demand for computational capacity, the discussion moves to a new stage. The incentive may improve conditions for new investments, but effective expansion will depend on the ability to combine energy availability, capital, connectivity, sustainability, regulatory predictability, and deployment speed.
