Latin America expands its share in the global race for data center investments

A new generation of data centers intensifies the competition for markets capable of combining energy, connectivity, and a favorable investment environment.

São Paulo, July 2026 - The expansion of artificial intelligence has launched a new global race for digital infrastructure and placed Latin America on the radar for major data center investments. Moving beyond just expanding computational capacity, companies and investors have begun evaluating which markets offer the best conditions to host new ventures, considering factors such as energy availability, international connectivity, the regulatory environment, and deployment speed. These themes will be among the main debates at Data Center World Brasil 2026.

Brazil holds a prominent position in this movement. According to industry data presented by Data Center World Brasil, the country concentrates about 75% of data center investments in Latin America, driven by growing demand for digital services, a predominantly renewable electricity matrix, and advancements in connectivity infrastructure. This scenario reinforces the region's strategic role in the next phase of digital economy growth.

The pace of this expansion is also observed on a global scale. A McKinsey study projects that installed data center capacity is expected to practically triple by 2030, rising from about 82 GW to approximately 220 GW, driven by the growth of hyperscale environments and generative artificial intelligence applications. In this context, countries capable of bringing together favorable conditions for new projects tend to attract the next investment cycles.

"The growth of digital infrastructure in Latin America will not follow a single model. Each market brings together different conditions of energy, connectivity, regulation, and demand, which directly influences architecture and deployment decisions for new ventures," says Leonardo Benedicto, director of Data Center World Brasil.

This new investment cycle also increases competition among countries and regions interested in attracting major global operators. Energy availability, international connectivity, the regulatory environment, legal certainty, and agility in licensing have come to directly influence the choice of where the next large-scale data centers will be deployed. More than physical infrastructure, these factors have come to represent competitive advantages in the race for new developments.

This transformation will be among the highlights of the Data Center World Brasil 2026 schedule. In the opening panel, "Digital Infrastructure as a Geopolitical Asset: Competitiveness, Investments, Regulation, and What Needs to Change," experts will discuss how public policies, taxation, energy expansion, and connectivity influence the ability of countries to attract digital infrastructure investments.

The debate will take place on October 6th, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and will bring together Marcos Ferrari, Executive President of Conexis Brasil Digital; Juliano Stanzani, Director of Sectoral Policy at the Telecommunications Secretariat of the Ministry of Communications; Affonso Nina, Executive President of Brasscom; Lester Zhang, Deputy Director of International Business at Sieyuan Electric Co., Ltd.; and Victor Arnaud, President and Managing Director of Equinix in Brazil. The panel will discuss how competitiveness, regulation, energy availability, and connectivity impact the expansion of digital infrastructure in Brazil and Latin America.

The first edition of Data Center World Brasil will be held from October 6th to 8th at the São Paulo Expo, concurrently with Futurecom, bringing together industry leaders, experts, and companies to discuss the main technical, economic, and strategic challenges of digital infrastructure.
