Expansion of data centers boosts demand for specialized professionals

Engineers, technicians, and operators gain ground with new projects; professional training will be debated at Data Center World Brasil

São Paulo, September 2026 – Electrical and mechanical engineers, technicians, operators, and specialists in cooling, automation, networking, security, and critical environment maintenance are among the professionals in demand due to the expansion of data centers. The diversity of specialties involved in the construction and operation of these structures broadens a discussion that is gaining traction in the sector: how to prepare a qualified workforce to keep up with the pace of new projects.

The impact on the job market extends throughout the entire chain. A study by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) estimates that the implementation of a single 100 MW data center can generate around 12,500 direct and indirect jobs over a period of 18 to 36 months. The survey also calculates R$ 590 million in labor income and an impact of R$ 1.5 billion on the GDP.

The Regional Council of Engineering and Agronomy of the State of São Paulo (Crea-SP) points out, for example, opportunities for electrical and data engineers in activities that include substation projects, power quality, automation, and the integration of renewable sources.

The topic will be among the discussions at the first edition of Data Center World Brasil, which will be held from October 6 to 8 at the São Paulo Expo, in São Paulo. The event arrives in the country with an agenda dedicated to the main themes of data center infrastructure and will gather executives, specialists, suppliers, and representatives from different segments involved in the development and operation of these structures.

“We are talking about an infrastructure that relies on professionals with different specializations, from construction to operation. As projects advance and gain complexity, qualification must keep pace with this movement. It is an important discussion not only for companies in the sector but also for training a new generation of professionals,” says Leonardo Benedicto, director of Data Center World Brasil.

On October 7, at 11:30 AM, the panel “Training and Workforce in Data Centers: Forming the Foundation of Digital Infrastructure” will discuss the availability of engineers, technicians, and operators, the pace of professional training, and the alignment between qualification and job opportunities.

Participating in the conversation are Pierre Lucena, from Porto Digital – Recife Technology Park; Roberta Piozzi, from Brasscom; and Andrea Matsui, from Generation Brasil. The debate will also address partnerships between companies and institutions to prepare professionals, as well as the skills required by an increasingly specialized infrastructure.

The first edition of Data Center World Brasil will be held simultaneously with Futurecom, one of the main connectivity and innovation events in Latin America. Promoted by Informa Markets, both events will gather companies, specialists, and leaders to discuss advancements in digital infrastructure and their impacts on the economy and different productive sectors.
